LC Packaging UK - AGRI: “We like to think outside the box”

LC Packaging UK is located right in the center of the onion and potato markets. Our flexible, friendly, supportive, caring and driven staff are at the ready to provide customers with high quality packaging for their valuable products. Katie Brown - Country Manager - and Martin Schrooder - Managing Director - are two of them.

A one-stop-shop for Agri packaging

Katie Brown has been working for LC Packaging for over 12 years now and runs the Scottish arm of our global packaging company. "At LC Packaging UK (LC UK) we offer our customers a one-stop-shop. Besides the packaging itself, we can provide them with the necessary add-ons, such as sewing yarns and net wrap", Katie says. With large storage facilities in two different locations, LC UK is very flexible with last-minute orders. “We have several systems in place to help manage our stock. We can see which shipments are coming in at what time, but are also able to proactively contact our customers if we think it is time for them to place a new order based on their order history.”

Innovating with customers

LC UK prides itself with that proactive customer contact. Martin Schrooder has been working for LC Packaging for over 26 years now: "Many companies will wait until they are in their second or third year of contract to come up with new ideas. We however, try to be constantly thinking outside the box and come up with new ideas. It is up to the customer to then decide if it is for them or not”. "We want our customers to think of us as a member of their team. I want to be the first person they ring if they need anything or have an idea", Katie adds. “One of our customers in the cabbage sector struggled with quality issues for their product”, Martin continues. “Together with the factory, we evaluated the issue and developed a medium mesh which was evaluated by the growers and then further optimised. This teamwork resulted in softer packaging with a smaller label and better quality cabbage.”

UK Plastic Tax

Next to Brexit, the UK will face a new challenge when in April 2022 the Plastic Tax will be introduced. With this tax, the Government wants to encourage the use of recycled material in plastic packaging used in the United Kingdom. Martin: “We are very busy looking into the possibilities of making more sustainable packaging without increasing its price. Additionally, we have summarised the most important facts and implications in an easy to read leaflet for our customers.
