In the context of the increasing momentum for sustainable business operations, LC Packaging’s customers in all industries, all around the world feel more and more responsibility and pressure to look for sustainable/circular packaging solutions.

However, the road ahead is full of challenges, fuelled by, for example, changes in regulations and tax schemes for plastic packaging. In any case, the need for circular packaging solutions – and for joining forces on this topic – is higher than ever before.

Contribution to Siyazenzela course by Wilderness Foundation Africa

Together with the Wilderness Foundation Africa, the LC Supports Foundation works on protecting and sustaining wildlife, wilderness and youth empowerment - among others - through integrated conservation and education programmes.

For each participant in the Sustainable FIBC Virtual Conference, LC Packaging has made a donation to the LC Supports Foundation to support the training programs by the Wilderness Foundation Africa. For this event, the total donation was €2,500.

Marcel Schouten holds over 25 years of experience in the flexible bulk packaging industry and joined LC Packaging in 1995. As he worked through the ranks to his current position Marcel supported LC Packaging's development into an international and leading product and service supplier in the field of FIBCs. Both in developing a sales and distribution network throughout Europe and Africa, as well as in building up a sustainable manufacturing footprint through long term manufacturing partnerships and LC’s own (joint venture) manufacturing facilities - Dutch Bangla Pack in Bangladesh and LC Shankar in South Africa.

Lotte Mastwijk holds over 16 years of field experience in various industries, joining LC Packaging 7 years ago to set up its global communications strategy. In 2017 she also started specialising in sustainability, resulting in LC Packaging's first 5-year 2022 Sustainability Vision and its recently launched 2030 Ambition. As she combines both specialisms, Lotte has the ability to be on top of the company’s ‘do-good’ agenda, organising a positive environment and contributing to the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals.

Sara is an independent consultant helping businesses and other organisations transition to a circular economy for plastics. Sara has a PhD in material science, she has led the Plastics Innovation team at the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (a UK-based charity and worldwide thought leader on circular economy) and she has worked with the world's largest corporates, emerging innovators and experts from across the industry on projects related to reusable packaging, extended producer responsibility and upstream innovation to drive momentum towards solutions that keep packaging in the economy and out of the environment..

Tom Harrison-Prentice is a change-maker, driven to contribute to a more sustainable and more equitable world. He has 10 years of experience working on the Sustainable Development Goals within international institutions such as the European Commission and United Nations, NGOs and the commercial sector. He joined LC Packaging in 2021 to help accelerate towards the ambitious sustainability goals. His role is to disconnect the company’s success from the use of virgin materials, by spearheading a Circular Economy strategy for reuse and recycling and working across the organisation to deliver on this vision.

As a director, Arnoud Walrecht is responsible for leading KPMG Sustainability in Circular Economy engagements in the Netherlands and worldwide. Arnoud has over 19 years of experience in environmental, sustainability, and strategy projects. He has led multiple circular economy projects for clients in the public and private sector. As the leader of KPMG Circular Economy Advisory business lines as part of KPMG IMPACT Arnoud has extensive experience in managing complex multi stakeholder projects in an international context and has been working on multiple engagements related to Circular Economy or the broader Sustainability strategy topic.

Merijn Betjes

Merijn Betjes began his career at Meijburg in 2006 and has over 15 years experience. Merijn has a focus on real estate and sustainability. He is part of the Real Estate Group and he is leading the Dutch Tax Sustainability team. Merijn has extensive experience with environmental taxes, like energy tax and carbon taxes. He is also part of KPMG's global ESG tax team, as a global environmental tax expert. Merijn advises various clients, including healthcare, investors, listed companies and industrial organizations. Merijn has published various articles regarding environmental taxes.

Michael Pleitgen holds over 20 years of experience in the packaging industry and has joined SCHÜTZ GmbH & Co. KGaA in 2002. Thorsten Classen holds over 25 years experience in the packaging industry and joined LC Packaging as country manager for the German GmbH in 2013.
