LC Supports Foundation Partners With Wilderness Foundation Africa

The LC Supports Foundation (LCSF) and the LC Packaging South Africa team have started a new partnership with the Wilderness Foundation Africa (WFA), a conservation organisation working to protect and sustain wildlife, wilderness and youth empowerment - among others - through integrated conservation and education programmes.
At LC Packaging, we believe that we all deserve equal opportunities in life. Together, LCSF and WFA will work on empowering vulnerable young people from local communities in which LC Packaging (in)directly operates with skills to help them with pathways to various livelihood opportunities. Youth unemployment is one of South Africa’s biggest challenges and there is a growing number of young people in neither employment, education or training. A curve that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, LC Supports Foundation will fund:
- a 10-day Siyazenzela training course for 15 youngsters that includes content on waste management and recycling principles for which LC Packaging experts will partake on topics such as financial literacy;
- a Wilderness Trail where the youngsters will be split up into two groups with trail guides to allow for minimum impact on the environment;
- monitoring and evaluation of youngsters’ progress;
- a graduation ceremony.
The project starts in May and will take place in Pietermaritzburg, directly in the LC Packaging community.
Skills and vocational education
The Siyanzenzela courses consist of basic employability modules and leadership skills interventions to help youngsters gain job preparedness skills whilst also developing personal insights and learning about environmental impact. Additionally, they will be immersed in wilderness and nature as this has already proven to have a positive change effect in their lives. During a Wilderness Trail experience, youngsters are guided in a “light touch” process to connect with the peace and resilience found in the wild. The overriding objective is to see young people progressing from unemployment to employment by providing them with skills and vocational education opportunities.
Next to financial support through the LC Supports Foundation, the local LC Packaging team in South Africa will be strongly involved throughout the year
