Governments and regulatory bodies worldwide are imposing stricter regulations and guidelines regarding packaging waste, and environmental and social impact. A very important piece of legislation in Europe, is the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The PPWR is a proposed European Union (EU) regulation to reduce packaging pollution and create a circular economy for packaging.
The PPWR sets targets to reduce packaging waste overall, mandates specific requirements for packaging sustainability (recyclability, recycled content, reuse, packaging minimisation etc.), and ensures that Extended Producer Responsibility [EPR] schemes are rolled out in all European countries. If adopted, it will apply across all of the EU countries for all packaging, including imported packaging.
To assess the anticipated impact of the PPWR on our product portfolio, we have prepared an overview of the relevant elements of the PPWR. Would you like to know more about the PPWR in relation to the packaging you are using? Read our summary.
At LC Packaging, it is our intention to stay ahead of the developments and be ready for what is yet to come by ensuring we have more sustainable alternatives for our customers. For example through investments in Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR), our WorldBag reconditioning service and innovating our packaging design to ensure recyclability and compostability. Learn how this applies to our big bags (one of our product groups) on our Circular FIBC Solutions web page.
Implementing living wages in our supply chain and actively researching, measuring and reporting on social and environmental impact of our operations and products also addresses other upcoming legislations. Read more about this in our 2030 Ambition.
